About Us

Darrell Modica, Willmar, MN
I grew up in Sioux Falls, SD, joined the SDANG in 1954, followed by being a full time air technician in both SD and California.  In 1965 I became a full time Boy Scout Executive in Sioux Falls, Rosebud Indian Reservation, and Chicago.   In 1973 we moved back to Sioux Falls and owned Crossroads Book and Music, a Christian Book store until retiring in 1996.   I retired as E7 with 20 years of Air Force time having served in the SD Guard, California and Illinois Guard with many short term assignments.  I presently live in Willmar.

I served in the Army National Guard from 1978-1985. I just recently retired from the Willmar Police Department after serving for 33 years. I was the Sgt of the Community Outreach Division and served as the Law Enforcement representative for HomeFront Connection. My family has a long history of military involvement and support for military families. My father fought in the Korean War and three of my brothers have served in various branches of the military. I presently have three nieces and nephews serving in the Air Force and Navy. I have been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years and I am also a member of the  Willmar American Legion Post and the VFW Auxiliary. I consider it an honor to help the families and soldiers that have served our country

I served 6 years in the United States Air Force and am currently the Kandiyohi County Veterans Service Officer. I have a passion for helping Veterans and work with them daily to get any type of assistance that is needed. HomeFront Connection has assisted me with projects that I could not have completed on my own and also impacted the lives of families of current, past, and deceased military families in many ways. I am pleased as a community that we are able to work together so closely to ensure the families and soldiers are being taken care of while they are away or experiencing tough times upon returning home.

I have been involved with Veteran and military related issues for over 20 years. I started collecting military items at 5 years old, and over the years grew to have a great appreciation for the individual veterans and their stories. I have become active in working with the VFW, Legion and other organizations for veteran related issues and believe that the American Service Member and Veteran have dedicated a remarkable service and sacrifice to our country. I am honored to be able to help them out as possible. Although not a veteran myself, I see how important it is to make sure that our Veterans and Service Members are aware of how much their service is appreciated. Working with Homefront Connection has allowed for a great network base for helping in a variety of capacities that any one individual or organization cannot do.

I became involved with Home Front Connection when our son enlisted in the United States Army.  After four years as a full time service member and one tour to Iraq, his enlistment has concluded.  As a veteran he is pursuing his Mechanical Engineering degree at NDSU.  My husband and I are very proud of our son’s service to his country.  I am currently the President of Home Front Connection and I am honored to be part of such a wonderful organization that supports our currently serving military members, veterans, and their families in our community.  In the past 5 years, our organization has had the opportunity to help several families, host special events and support our local Veteran’s Services office.  The Women of the Military Brunch is one of the events we host and it is very close to my heart as I have been the Co-Chair for the past several years.  This event allows us to thank the women who are serving and to thank the heroes behind the heroes.

I enlisted in the MNARNG in 1986 and served for just over 20 years retiring in 2006 as a First Sergeant in the 1/194 Combined Arms Battallion 34th Infantry Division.  I served in many different units and positions in my 20 years travelling overseas several times and on multiple state active duty assignments. I have been a member of the American Leginon since 2007 and am currently the Adjutant of Post 545 in Spicer.  My family has a deep tradition of military service and I am proud to have served this country.  I am proud now to continue in service to those who have and currently serve it today as well as their families who sacrifice so much.
